Regional Parliamentary Conference on Empowering Arab Members of Parliaments

Organizer(s): Organized in partnership with the Algerian “Majlis Al-Oumma” (Senate), the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, with the logistic support of the UNDP-Algeria office..
The conference brought together a large audience composed of members of parliaments, representatives of parliamentary administrations and Arab and international experts in parliamentary development to engage in a regional reflection on how to empower the Arab MPs by strengthening the environment in which they exercise their role. This includes the administrative structure, internal regulations and bylaws, support personnel and services, institutional public outreach and partnership with civil society and the media.
The conference served as a platform for exchange of various regional and international practices which have enabled members of parliament to exercise their representative, legislative and oversight functions more effectively. Presentations also highlighted tools and strategies which can contribute improving the democratic parliamentary culture and enhance the image of the parliamentary institutions in the Arab region
