Arab Parliaments: Web Resources

The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity-AMAN, is a coalition of six Palestinian NGO’s, namely: The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy “MIFTAH”, Arab Thought Forum “ATF”, The Palestine Trade Center “PalTrade”, The Palestinian Institute for the Study of Democracy “MUWATIN”, and Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, The Palestinian Council on Foreign Relations. The coalition, which acts as Transparency Palestine, aims at combating corruption in the Palestinian society, and achieving the widest participation in its implementation. Among its many interests, Aman has focused on the role of political parties and political party legislation, through conducting workshops and publishing related material on this topic.

The Arab Region Parliamentarians Against Corruption (ARPAC) - the Arab Chapter of GOPAC - was established in Beirut in November 2004 during a meeting entitled "Parliamentarians against Corruption: Improving Transparency and Accountability in the Arab Region."

The Arab chapter of GOPAC was launched during the conference, entitled ‘Parliamentarians against Corruption: Improving Transparency and Accountability in the Arab Region. November 18-20, 2004.

It also continues to scrutinize intergovernmental cooperation in the field of armaments and armaments research and development.

BICC is dedicated to promoting peace and development through the efficient and effective transformation of military-related structures, assets, functions and processes.

The Center (CCMR) provides graduate level education to foreign civilian and military participants. It is dedicated to strengthening democratic civil-military relationships and assisting other nations in making integrated defense decisions.

The Cranfield Centre for Security Sector Management, homed at the Cranfield University (UK) is dedicated to promoting the development and effective management of security sectors for enhanced peace and security. Among the main focus areas are security sector management, national security policy, and role of armed forces in security sector reform.

DFID is the part of the UK government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty. It is led by a cabinet minister, one of the senior ministers in the government.

The Gender Responsive Budgeting website is a collaborative effort between UNIFEM, the Commonwealth Secretariat and Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The website strives to support efforts of governments, women’s organizations, members of parliaments and academics to ensure that planning and budgeting effectively respond to gender equality goals. The site also provides practitioners with a variety of resources, assessments and training materials on gender responsive budgeting. Finally, it aims to promote cross-regional information-sharing on country experiences and facilitates networking and collaboration amongst countries, civil society and international organizations

The centre (DCAF) promotes good governance and reform of the security sector through working with governments and civil society to foster and strengthen the democratic and civilian control of security sector organizations. One of DCAF's focus areas is strengthening parliamentary oversight of the security sector

The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) is a non-profit organization and an international network of parliamentarians dedicated to good governance and combating corruption through peer support throughout the world.

This office focuses on the U.S government's accountability through monitoring all federal programs. Its work affects the passage of legislation, and improves government operations.

The Henry L. Stimson Center is mainly concerned with enhancing international peace and security. Among the main fields of interest are reducing the threat of weapons of mass destruction, building regional security and strengthening institutions for international peace and security.

Website of the International Budget Partnership IBP which aims to monitor and infleunce budget processes, institutions, and outcomes as a means to make budget systems more responsive to the needs of low-income people in developing countries. Includes publications on budgeting ranging from understanding and monitoring of budgets to budget analysis. It also contains a central theme on legislatures and budget oversight.

The International Crisis Group aims at promoting conflict prevention through field research, and the production of analytical reports containing practical recommendations targeted at key international decision-takers.

The website provides offical and practical information on the implementation of the UN - CEDAW convention.

Lebanese Parliamentary Monitor is a website aiming to spread a culture of responsibility and transparency by monitoring information on and activities of each Lebanese Parliament Member. It also offers a space for discussing public policies and legislation that has been approved in parliament.

NISAT works through providing a database of resources and establishing a network of partner organizations to help block the spread of small arms to areas where they are likely to be used in warfare, armed violence or human rights abuses.

The Pan-African Parliamnent aims to facilitate the effective implementation of the policies and objectives of the OAU/AEC and, ultimately, of the African Union. It seeks to promote the principles of human rights and democracy in Africa, encourage good governance, transparency and accountability in Member States, familiarize the peoples of Africa with the objectives and policies aimed at integrating the African continent within the framework of the establishment of the African Union, promote peace, security and stability, facilitate cooperation and development in Africa; strengthen continental solidarity.

The website's emphasis is on South Africa and South African political parties. It aims to assist researchers, journalists, and civil society in general in understanding and tracking the relationship between money and and the political process. It includes reports, papers, and studies on issues of regulation of funding, transparency and disclosure.

RAND Corporation aims at improving policy and decision-making through research and analysis. Research areas include international affairs, national security, and public safety.

Security Sector Reform in South Eastern Europe: An Inventory of Initiatives [ English ]. [brief description]

The project "Security Sector Reform in South Eastern Europe: An Inventory of Initiatives" is a research project carried out by The Centre for International and Security Studies at York University. The main objective of this project is to encourage transparency and information-sharing in security sector reform, by providing an inventory of ongoing initiatives and identifying gaps and overlaps in international engagement in the region.

The website provides insights into corruption on a global and regional scale and includes vast quantitative and qualitative research on the topic.

Website of Women's Environment and Development Organization which was established in 1990 with the aim of advancing women's perspectives at the United Nations and others forums, as well as at the national level by holding governments accountable to their commitments. The organization works on three main themes: climate change, corporate accountability, and governance. The website also includes a library containing policy documents.
